Year Round Growing in Underground Greenhouses

Underground gardens are built three to five feet into the ground and can host a variety of fruits and vegetables. Growing a garden at home ensures that vegetables are fresh and natural so that living a healthy life is possible.

Growing an underground garden is a great alternative for those who live in areas where the weather varies throughout the year.

Underground greenhouses are helpful in the fact that vegetables can grow comfortably all year long. It gives homeowners options even when they live in areas where the weather is not consistent all year long.

The greenhouses are built a few feet into the ground. It’s great to have another option to consider when considering growing a home garden.

Home gardens ensure that you know where your food is coming from and that it is safe and pesticide free, if so desired. More at this link: Underground Greenhouses

If an “underground greenhouse” seems way out, it is not new. Many greenhouses in the late 1800s and early 1900s were built in a similar fashion. A more “modern” method would be building a greenhouse in a pool.

How To Make A Greenhouse From A Carport Frame

Adding a greenhouse to your backyard does not need to be a costly, time consuming venture running into the 1,000’s of dollars.

carport frame greenhousePin

Here is a tutorial where they took a standard carport frame that lost it’s cover and turned it into a wonderful greenhouse for about $250.

“This was a standard 10’X20’ Costco carport that had lost it’s cover. We purchased it for $50. They seem to be flimsy, and maybe that’s what causes the tarp covers to tear. We decided to beef up this one by attaching the bottom of the posts to some pressure treated 2”X6” boards. Actually, the first step was to level the ground area about 15’X25’.”

I’ve made some small greenhouses with frames similar to a carport and they will need to be “beefed up”, but they make a fine greenhouse for home use. Some growers now are opting for grow tents for growing indoors.

The tutorial has some good images and details on the whole project. Great way to get started! More at: Jerry’s Carport Tube Greenhouse.
