Easy Instructions On Creating A Concrete Patio With Pavers

Okay, so you bought a house and inherited a patio which has seen some better days. You want a fresh, clean and classy look, but you seem concerned about the expense and all the effort it takes to tear up the concrete?

Don’t panic. We found a simple and beautiful way to make your backyard look great. You cover up the concrete with pavers.

You heard it right! And best of all, you can do it all by yourself or with a little bit of help in less than two days. This video will help you get started!

Alright, first things first, clean up your patio and sweep away all the leaves and dirt. Get it nice and clean.

If your patio shows cracks, hide them by laying down a layer of weed defense fabric before spreading out the paver base over the concrete. You don’t want weeds pushing up and ruining all your hard work.

Now, make sure that your patio looks level. If it does not seem level, use a concrete leveling compound to fill any of the low areas in and to even out the surface. Then, grind away any of the bumps and ridges to achieve a flat and level surface.

Next, spread a thin layer of paver base all over the concrete. However, leave an 8-inch perimeter at the edge all the way around. This space will serve as the place to pour the mortar directly onto the concrete to keep the pavers from shifting.

Now, a paver base lays down. However, the surface still feels rough and dirty. You can see the stones and stuff in here.

Add a layer of leveling sand to smooth the whole area out. It will look pretty once done.

Finally, we get to work on putting the pavers in the right place. Begin by setting the pavers down in one of the corners. If you want a more cobbled appearance for the patio, avoid leaving the same side of the paving stones right up next to each other.

You can also split the pavers into four smaller pieces you can use to bury the pattern and also to work into some of those hard bases.

If you look underneath the paver tiles, you will see nothing secures them to your patio floor. You need to mortar in all the pavers around the edge to secure all the tiles in place. Due to this, you to make some mortar.

Mix a little bit of mortar with water according to the instructions on the package. And remember as a general rule, it should appear a little thicker than toothpaste. Do not create too much right away because this stuff is going to set in a couple of hours.

Work in small sections and use a masonry trowel to spread a thin layer of the mortar around your edges. And those pavers split in half will build as the edges for this part of the task. Edges on the outside, the side you split on the inside, and line up the seams.

After the setting up the edges, spread the polymeric sand like this all over our pavers. And the best way to do that is just with a push broom.

Now, polymeric sand creates a strong, yet flexible joint when you spray it with water. Once you fill in all the cracks, sweep off all the excess. Wet it down real good and allow it to set according to the manufacturer’s instructions before you walk on it.

It does not take a pro to do these pavers on a concrete patio. Your patio may now hold a summer barbecue party. For more fantastic upgrades like this, visit Lowe’s.
